New I-Phone App Lets you See How you Would Look after a Facial Plastic Surgery Procedure

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

If you’ve ever wondered what you would look like with a bigger nose, smaller chin or breast implants, a new I-Phone app now lets you see.

Created by a south Florida plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Salzhauer, this popular “iSurgeon” app is taking the world by storm. Anyone will now be able to see what they would look like after a particular cosmetic surgery procedure – all accompanied by very distinct sawing, screaming and grinding noises.

“They could do this in the privacy of their home, and if they were ready to take the next step, they could e-mail it to a plastic surgeon or make an appointment and have a realistic discussion about what’s possible and what isn’t,” Salzhauer told CBS News 4 in Miami.

Even if you don’t have an I-Phone, you can go online and test out a version of the iSurgeon app MTV is featuring on its website. The app allows you to “Heidi yourself,” referring to Heidi Montag who has admittedly had 10 plastic surgeries in one day.

Dr. Salzhauer doesn’t suggest going that far but says he believes plastic surgery is valuable, as long as it’s done within reason and through a board-certified plastic surgeon.

“It’s no different than getting braces to straighten your teeth or changing the color of your hair,” says the good doctor.

And while new technology is good, clinical psychologist Dr. Maria Rodriguez at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York says it’s important one doesn’t obsess over their body and that they should question any motivations they have for wanting to undergo a plastic surgery procedure…she also says if you want to “Heidi yourself” then you probably need to seek some counseling.

In the end though, Dr. Rodriguez says this app is for fun and designed to satisfy one’s curiosity on what they would look like after undergoing a plastic surgery procedure.

I-Phone users can easily download the app for their phones by searching for “iSurgeon” in the App store.

Take a look at the video below for a demonstration on how the iSurgeon app works.

Correct Changes in your Breast Implants with a Breast Revision

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

One way Florida plastic surgeons at Gainesville’s Accent Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics expertly help women accomplish their goals of fuller breasts are to use implants. However, changes with the implants themselves or natural changes in the breast tissue after child-birth or weight loss can cause the breasts to lose their fullness.

Besides these changes in breast tissue, some women simply desire larger or smaller breasts and will require a breast revision to help them accomplish their goals.

Breast revision is in fact one of or a combination of other common cosmetic breast procedures we perform at our Gainesville clinic…perhaps it’s a breast lift after giving birth, or even a breast reduction in some cases.

Either way, everyone’s situation is unique so learn more about the procedure and if it’s the right course of action to help you accomplish your goals by reading our newest page on breast revisions or contact Florida breast revision surgeons at Accent Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics today.

Correcting Abnormal Breast Development in Young Women

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Abnormal breast development – known in the plastic surgery world as a congenital breast asymmetry – is an unfortunate reality for many young women. Most women do have slight differences in each of their breasts but these are unnoticeable in most cases.

However, some women have extreme differences in their breasts, which are caused by genetic tendencies or simply differences in the way paired organs like breasts grow.

Whatever the reason, breast asymmetry is a difficult situation for anyone to be in, destroying confidence and optimism.

Fortunately, Florida plastic surgeons at Accent Plastics have the ability to correct these differences.

Breast buds begin developing in young girls anywhere between the ages of 7 and 13 or whenever a girl’s biological clock makes her body create more estrogen. About two years after this event, the first menstrual period occurs while breasts continue developing for another 2-4 years, which is where noticeable differences in the breast size can occur.

By age 21 though, breasts are fully developed so if you still have noticeable differences at this point, a congenital breast asymmetry may be right for you. The only other events where breasts will change are pregnancy and menopause.

But what does a congenital breast asymmetry involve?

Well, it’s actually other common plastic surgery procedures except it’s done for a different purpose.

Since it’s a very personal thing, you cannot know what your breasts require without speaking with a qualified breast asymmetry surgeon.

To correct differences in the size of your breasts, surgeons can employ a breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction or a combination of these procedures.

Therefore, recovering from this procedure is exactly like other cosmetic breast procedures we offer at our Gainesville clinic.

Take a moment and see if a congenital breast asymmetry is right for you and what you can expect if you decide to go forward with the procedure.

Peruvian Woman Bed Bound Because of Massive Breasts

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Just when you thought you’ve heard it all, down comes another story that’s beyond belief…a 29-year old mother of three in Peru was bed ridden for over 6 months because her breasts had grown so large she would literally faint because of the massive stress of carrying N-cup breasts.

After giving birth to her third child, the small framed woman began experiencing massive breast growth. “It was awful. If I tried to get up I would faint because my breasts were so heavy. My breasts became so huge my skin had sores and I had trouble breathing.”

The woman was finally able to receive help when local media paid for her to take a three-day trip to the nearest town for medical help. Once there, doctors diagnosed her with an extreme form of Bilateral Gynecomastia – or a condition where the mammary gland continues to grow. They were also concerned about the impact of this weight on her lungs.

Doctors performed a 6-hour breast reduction operation where they removed 35 pounds of flesh from her chest – resulting in a 34B cup size for the beleaguered mother of three.

“Before the operation I couldn’t do anything, I just had to live with it, it got so bad that my breast were touching my legs” says the woman.

While this is a very extreme case, oversize breasts can present problems for many women. Breast reduction surgery at our Florida plastic surgery clinic can help address this problem, giving women a new sense of confidence and relief from carrying around such a heavy load on their chests.

“Gummy Bear” Breast Implants Offer Alternative to Saline and Silicone

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

While breast implants have been available for years now, researchers in academia and industry are always on the lookout for better materials to make implants safer and more comfortable. Cohesive silicone gel implants are one of the newest types of breast implants to hit the market.

Due to the similarities with the texture of gummy bear candy, these implants are informally known as “gummy bear” breast implants. While their use hasn’t been approved in the U.S. yet, they are taking Europe and Brazil by storm…and there’s good reason why.

First, they use a new type of silicone that addresses two of the problems with traditional saline and silicone implants – rupturing and rippling. If there’s a tear in one the new gummy bear implants, the substance inside will maintain its shape and integrity, alleviating the concern of silicone migrating to other parts of the body where it can cause problems.

Cohesive silicone gel implants also have a more natural feel than traditional saline implants. Other advantages of gummy bear implants include:

  • Lower risk of rupture and leaking
  • More natural look and comfortable fit
  • Ability to maintain their form, or “bounce back”
  • Less risk of capsular contracture, or inflammation and hardening of scar tissue

While it may seem gummy bear implants are infallible, they do have some disadvantages over more traditional options. One, they feel firmer than other implant options, which may be uncomfortable for some women. Also, a larger incision is required to insert them and they do cost more. And if the implant does move, it may cause a distorted appearance.

Unfortunately, this procedure is not available on a wide scale in the U.S. To obtain gummy bear implants in this country, women have to enroll in a clinical study that’s evaluating these implants (or travel to Europe or Brazil)

Even though there are some drawbacks, reports from patients indicate overwhelming satisfaction. In fact, they have become one the most popular breast augmentation options in Europe and Brazil.

In the mean time, consider breast augmentation and lift options at our Florida plastic surgery center in Gainesville. If you’re interested in learning more, contact Accent Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics today.

Liposuction Causes Natural Breast Enhancement Study Concludes

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

An interesting study published in September 2007’s issue of Dermatologic Surgery shows women who have fat removed from other parts of the body through liposuction can experience an increase in one to two cup sizes.

Board certified surgeon Dr. Eric Finzi conducted the study after many of his tumescent liposuction patients returned for post-operative check-ups with the unexpected side effect of larger breasts. Finzi’s study of the matter concluded that 43% of female patients who undergo one or more liposuction procedures experience an increase in their breast size…heavier patients who had more fat removed were more likely to experience a natural breast enhancement.

“This is the first step in the development of natural breast enlargement,” stated Dr. Finzi, who has performed thousands of liposuction procedures in parts of the body that good dieting and exercise couldn’t touch.

Liposuction has become a popular cosmetic procedure since its inception in 1987. Besides the conventional benefits of safety and removal of unwanted fat without surgical scarring, women may also benefit from a natural increase in their breast size.

Up until these findings, breast implants were the only known way for women to increase the size of their breasts. Over 2 million women in the U.S. have undergone implant surgery but despite its popularity, implants continue to have frequent complications including implant rupture, hardening of the breasts, changes in sensation and more.

Data from Dr. Finzi’s study suggest an added benefit of liposuction surgery – perhaps allowing you to kill two birds with one stone.

Looking to get rid of excess skin and fat that good dieting and exercise can’t deal with, perhaps getting some natural breast enhancement in the process? Contact Florida liposuction surgeons at Accent Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics today for a free consultation.

Compounds in Pomegranates May Prevent Spread of Breast Cancer – Study

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Six compounds found in pomegranates may prevent the spread of breast cancer in women according to research published in the January 1st issue of Cancer Prevention Research.

Breast cancer relies on hormones to spread – so blocking those hormones can conceivably contain the disease before it causes worse problems.

The particular hormone that compounds in pomegranates block is aromatase, which changes androgen to estrogen. Doctors caution though that these are preliminary results as no human or animal testing has taken place.

Researchers screened 10 compounds in a group known as ellagitannins for the study. The compound urolithin B (UB) was found to have the greatest impact, appearing to restrict mechanisms that produce estrogen and promote the growth of breast cancer. UB was also found to prevent estrogen responsive breast cancer cells from multiplying.

Other phytochemicals found in pomegranates that were shown to block aromatase to a lesser extent include: urolithin A (UA), methylated UA, acetylated UA, methylated UB and UB sulfate.

Doctors emphasize that more study is needed. In vitro (test tube) results don’t always translate to animals and humans. Pomegranates have these cancer fighting compounds – but the body may not absorb those compounds from the fruit in a way that makes a difference.

Nevertheless, you can reduce your risk of several types of cancer by eating a healthy diet that’s low in red meat, processed meat, saturated fats and salts and high in fiber, fruits and vegetables.

Florida Breast Reduction Surgeons Help Alleviate the Burdens of Overly Large Breasts

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

Having large breasts isn’t a blessing necessarily – if they’re too large, they can be the source of chronic neck and back pain, uncomfortable looks from others and severely limit the ability to perform physical activities.

One way to alleviate these burdens is through breast reduction surgery, or what’s known as a reduction mammaplasty in the plastic surgery world.

Breast reduction is a medical procedure, not a cosmetic one. And it’s recommended women wait until the breasts are fully developed, usually after 20 years of age.

What Florida plastic surgeons do is reduce the breasts’ size by removing excess fat, glandular tissue and skin. This removal and subsequent repositioning not only provides women with a proportional breast size in relation to the rest of their bodies, but alleviates pain and provides a new lease on life.

No longer will you have to live with the excruciating pain or psychological effects born out of self consciousness of having overly large breasts.

In a physical sense, breast reduction surgery is safe if you’re in good health and have realistic expectations. Florida plastic surgeons at Accent Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics will consult with you from beginning to end as to what you need to do.

Breast Lift Surgery – Florida Plastic Surgeon Explains What to Expect

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

A new article in the Florida plastic surgery knowledge center explains what to expect if you elect to undergo breast lift surgery at Accent Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics’ Florida plastic surgery center.

Also known as a mastopexy, breast lift surgery doesn’t change the size of breasts but simply reshapes and firms them. As we all know, aging takes its toll on everyone…breasts are no exception. Pregnancy, nursing and even gravity can cause skin to lose its elasticity, causing breasts to lose their shape and firmness.

To remedy this and give themselves a major confidence boost, many women elect breast lift surgery.

But like any other surgery, there is a procedure, a method, to performing a mastopexy safely and correctly. First, surgeons must perform an initial consultation and exam to determine which incision pattern to use for example. Anesthesia has to be administered so you will not feel the pain of incisions being made into your body.

Next, Gainesville breast lift surgeons will reshape and position the breasts and cut away any loose skin before closing the incisions back up. While post-surgical recovery from the anesthesia is pretty short, it will take several months for the final results to show itself…it will take some time for the incision lines to heal or fade away.

But we are confident you will love your new look!

We invite you to learn more about breast lift surgery and what to expect if you elect to undergo a breast lift procedure at our Florida plastic surgery center located in Gainesville.
